Ivory Coast - 10.3.14 - Cuckoos

The bird on the stamp is a Pied Cuckoo, Clamator jacobinus, but the surrounds show a Dideric Cuckoo, Chrysococcyx caprius.

Ivory Coast - 10.3.14 - Raptors

The bird on the stamp is a Black-shouldered Kite, Elanus caeruleus but the birds in the surrounds, both perched and flying, are Crowned Hawk-Eagle, Stephanoaetus coronatus.

Ivory Coast - 10.3.14 - Buffalos MS

The beast in the surrounds has two Yellow-billed Oxpeckers, Buphagus africanus on its back.

Solomon Islands - 22.11.13 - Birds of Prey

The bird on the stamp is White-bellied Sea-Eagle, Haliaeetus leucogaster. The left-hand bird in the surrounds is Osprey, Pandion haliaaetus. The right-hand bird is Brahminy Kite, Haliastur indus. (This will be correctly identified in F29/2 = FLIGHT for December 2014.)

Some of the images in this issue do not correspond closely to my identifications, particularly in respect of colouration, However, they are my best efforts and subject to any better suggestions.

Clockwise from bottom right in the surrounds we have:
Martial Eagle, Polemaetus bellicosus;
Blue Cuckoo-Shrike, Cyanograucalus azurea;
Crowned Hawk-Eagle, Stephanoaetus coronatus.

The fawn and white passerine in the top right surrounds has me stumped and I should appreciate suggestions.

Swallow-tailed Bee-Eater, Merops hirundinaeus;
Lesser Spotted Eagle, Clanga pomarina.

Depiction of the original stamps helps with identification of some of these owl species:

Peru 1995 Great Horned Owl, Bubo virginianus;
Russia (USSR) 1979, Barn Owl, Tyto alba;
Norfolk Island 1970, Southern Boobook, Ninox novaeseelandia;
Uganda 2012, Pel’s Fishing Owl, Scotopelia peli.

Unattached owls in the top surrounds are:

Left - Eurasian Eagle-Owl, Bubo bubo;
Right - Barn Owl, Tyto alba.
