BIRDS IN THE BORDER
FLIGHT December 2014 – Volume 29 No. 2
Montserrat - 23.4.14 - Hummingbirds
Souvenir sheet of 2 values

The hummingbird in the lower right surrounds appears to be White-bellied Hummingbird, Amazilia chionogaster - or another of that genus.

I have not been able to identify the more colourful bird just below the stamps. Any ideas please?

Namibia - 11.6.14 - Chinese navy

The left hand stamp shows Lesser Flamingos. The bird in the top right corner is a Great White Pelican, Pelecanus onocrotalus.

Nevis - 2014 - Macaws MS
The two stamps on this MS feature a Scarlet Macaw and a Golden-collared Macaw.
The bird in the surrounds is a Great Green Macaw Ara ambiguus.
FLIGHT September 2014 – Volume 29 No. 1 - Corrections and identifications

The Sierra Leone 23.12.13 ‘Birds of Africa’ sheet surrounds contained one unidentified image and one misidentification. I am grateful to Chris Gibbins and Peter McCulloch for the following information;

The unidentified passerine is most likely Blue-breasted Cordonbleu, Uraeginthus angolensis; The image identified as Blue Cuckoo-Shrike, Cyanograucalus azurea is in fact a Cape Glossy-Starling, Lamprotornis nitens.

My thanks are also due to Chris Gibbins for the two following corrections:

The Uganda 25.11.13 ‘Stamp on stamp’ MS wrongly identified the bird in the top right surrounds as a Barn Owl, Tyto alba. It should be Short-eared Owl, Asio flammeus.

The bird on the stamp of the Ivory Coast 10.3.14 ‘Cuckoos’ MS is African Emerald Cuckoo, Chrysococcyx cupreus (as correctly identified in FLIGHT new issues and not Pied Cuckoo, Clamator jacobinus as quoted in the Borders feature.
